    Your games
    1. Study the view: which hills can you see, what shape are they, and which is tallest?
    2. Find them on the contour map. Close lines are steep, and the map is 10 km across with north up.
    3. Place your person where you think you're standing, then turn them to face the same way as the view.
    4. Lock in your guess. You score up to 700 points for your location and 300 for your facing.

    Tips

    • The lines of the field of view on the map match the edges of the image, so line them up with what you can see.
    • The top of each hill and mountain is marked with an icon that shows what covers it: snow, rock or grass. Use it to tell whether a peak in the view has snow on it.
    • The number beside each top is its height in metres.
    • The ruler along the bottom of the view measures angles: 15° and 30° either side of the centre. Measure how far apart two peaks are and check it on the map.
    • Close contour lines are steep slopes; lines far apart are gentle ones.

    Controls

    • Click the map to place your person. Click and drag to place them and face towards where you drag.
    • Drag the white handle on the map, or the compass, to turn.
    • WASD or the arrow keys move you 10 m; the arrow buttons move you 100 m.
    • Q and E turn you 1°.
    • Press Enter or the button to lock in your guess.
    • Tap the map to place your person, or drag them around.

    • The arrows on the map's edges move you 100 m.

    Scoring

    Location: up to 700 points. Within 300 m scores all 700, 1 km off scores 627, 2 km off scores 522, 4 km off scores 313 and 7 km or more scores 0.

    Facing: up to 300 points. Within 5° scores all 300, 30° off scores 212, 50° off scores 141 and 90° or more scores 0.

    Everyone gets the same map each day, and a new one at midnight. After today's map, Practice gives you more.
